For one of our Black History Months event Eli Kirshner, our Communithy Conversations Facilitator, will present some of the findings from his Winter Term project on the history of race and the coal mining industry of Western Pennsylvania. Eli will present how, in 1927, a group of Black coal miners in Pittsburgh carried out a successful strike that resisted the racial oppression of both the coal company and the mine workers’ unions. This is a little-researched, but critically important story to tell — which most certainly has connections to the present day. The presentation will take place after worship.
